The symptoms of Fibromyalgia can be devastating. They affect our relationships, social life and job as well as our mental/emotional health.

Over the years I have encountered many different theories and opinions on what Fibromyalgia actually is, what causes it and if it can be treated or overcome. The best theory I have come across is that it is a chronically overreactive  stress response in the body. In normal people this "fight or flight" response is activated by life-threatening or stressful situations. For people suffering from fibromyalgia it is constantly active. In other words, Fibromyalgia is the manifestation of a deep imbalance within the body which has caused the hypothalamus (which regulates the entire autonomic nervous system) to malfunction and constantly activate the body’s stress response. This takes a huge toll on the body, compromising the immune system and producing a myraid of negative effects on physical, emotional and psychological health. The brain triggers symptoms like those above as well as contributing to secondary issues like metabolic disorders, adrenal fatigue, obesity and heart problems.

To mitigate the harmful effects of this constantly activated stress response and to begin to repair the root cause of the problem by rebalancing the hypothalamus we must address all the various aspects of the body-soul as each affects the other. My six month 12-session (bi-monthly) comprehensive personalized Fibromyalgia recovery and life-management coaching program covers all the main areas incorporated in a holistic approach to wellness. It includes recommendations for practical application and homework assignments to support each session. The holistic, synergistic, Source-based, mind-body-soul approach to well-being that I incorporate into my sessions integrates the practical and theoretical skills I have acquired through study and practice with my own personal experience and the intuitive gifts I have been blessed with.

According to Dr. Ginevra Liptan, Medical Director at The Frida Center for Fibromyalgia, "In Fibromyalgia the stress response never stops, like a smoke alarm that goes off incessantly even though there is no fire... When chronically activated, it wreaks havoc on the body, preventing deep sleep; keeping muscles tense, leading to pain and tenderness; impairing digestion and energy  production; and throwing hormones out of balance. It also ultimately causes the pain sensing nerves to increase the volume of their signals."

Research teams find widespread inflammation in the brains of fibromyalgia patients

PET imaging studies reveal elevated glial activation, correlation with fatigue levels

Date:September 27, 2018 Source:Massachusetts General Hospital Summary:A study has documented for the first time widespread inflammation in the brains of patients with the poorly understood condition called fibromyalgia.
